AVRM Newsletter June 2018 Vol.2 No.2a
The AV Fair opens TODAY, Friday, August the 17th! Holy Cow the Fair is NOW! Thanks to all of you for your continued support of, and interest in the AV Rural Museum. The ten days of the fair offer an opportunity to see the museum at its best, and witness the fruits of your physical labors and/or your financial support.
There are several new displays and memorabilia items to see this year. Come – Visit – Join. Maybe something will inspire you to get involved as a member, volunteer, or donor if you haven’t already.
We exist and continue to grow solely because of the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our volunteers (over 27,000 hours invested)
The PICKUS CHALLENGE 2018 is in full swing. For those who don’t know, David & Luci Pickus have challenged us all to match their $1000 donation to the AVRM Building Fund. So far this year we thank repeat Pickus Challenge donors: Betty Jo Love, Carman & Glenn Losey ($2,000 again this year), Larry & Kathy Rottman, Jerry & Barbara Sterk, Bill & Pam Rawlings, and Lynn DuPratt, as well as first time Challenge donors, Chris & Lors Spicher. This money goes directly to our New Building Fund’, which as you probably know is now over $250,000. We break ground soon after the Fair on Phase One of our new museum! Now we begin to raise enough money to build Phase Two.
During the 2018 AV Fair we will also have a 50/50 Cash Drawing, as well as a RAFFLE for a beautiful rustic cedar wood bench which was handcrafted by local craftsman Ken Swapp, and donated by Ken & Debby Swapp to benefit our New Building Fund. Tickets for both are one for $5 or five tickets for $20. Winner need not be present. If you cannot come to the fair, purchase tickets on our website.
Our new AVRM publication LANCASTER CALIFORNIA THROUGH TIME makes its AV Fair debut this year. The book was written by AV Rural Museum Members: Norma Gurba, Dayle DeBry, Karl Peterson, and Bill Rawlings. All profits from this book also go directly to the AVRM New Building Fund. Many other local history books are also available for purchase.
Finally, be sure to come watch the Rural Olympics at 6:00 pm, Saturday, August 25. The roots of the AVRM go back to the Rural Olympics Hall of Fame which opened in 2005, and occupies about one fourth of the museum today. The Rural Olympics will be followed by a Fireworks Show.
See you all at the Fair,
Bill Rawlings, AV Rural Museum Finance Officer
