DESCRIPTION:The First in the Antelope Valley Rural Museum’s Speaker Series.\nPancho Barnes: A Legend in Her Own Time\nPresented by aviation historian Barbara Schultz.\nPancho Barnes was one of aviation’s most colorful members. In the 1920s she barnstormed her way through the skies to become one of the best\, capturing the women’s speed record in 1930. The test pilots of Edwards Air Force Base designated her Happy Bottom Riding Club as their unofficial debriefing room in the 1950s. Among those who respected Pancho for both her character and abilities were Amelia Earhart\, Chuck Yeager\, and Jimmy Doolittle. \nBarbara Schultz is a well-respected aviation historian. She has written eight aviation history books\, consulted\, and participated in three documentaries\, and written several articles for the American Aviation Historical Society Journal. She and her husband Phil were close friends of Poncho’s family.

DESCRIPTION:AV Rural Museum Members in Good Standing are invited and encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting to be held on Saturday\, November 5th to participate in the annual election of Board Members and Officers. \nThe election meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. in our newly completed meeting room followed by our regular Board Meeting. Below is a list of positions and incumbents who intend to run for office again: \nChairman: Giovanni Simi has one more year left to serve. This position is not available.\nVice Chairperson: David Pickus\nFinance Officer: Bill Rawlings\nRecording Secretary: Lynn DuPratt\nCorresponding Secretary: Ruth Godde\nMembership Coordinators: Luci Pickus & Susan Knapp\nVolunteer Coordinator: Kristi Word\nCurator/Librarian: Dayle DeBry\nDirectors at Large: Jerry Sterk\, Jeff Godde\, John Knapp\, and Barbara Schultz. \nThere are currently three unfilled positions on the AVRM Board.
